Why go
The Prom combines beaches, forest, granite peaks and wildlife in a way few Victorian weekends can. Base yourself around Tidal River, choose one walk that fits the group and leave enough daylight for a quieter bay.
Do these first
The practical hub of the Prom, placing river, beach, accommodation and several walks close together.
Half dayA Grade 4, 6.8-kilometre return walk with a steep final climb and broad views over the coast and islands.
About 2 hoursA flat 2.3-kilometre loop through open grasslands where kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and emus may be seen.
About 45 minA very good day
Check conditions first, start early and choose depth over distance.
Review closures, weather and fire information before deciding on the main walk.
Choose Mount Oberon only if the group is ready for its Grade 4 track and steep final steps.
Refill water, eat and slow the pace before the afternoon.
Choose an easy signed walk such as Whisky Bay or the Prom Wildlife Walk, subject to conditions.

Before you go
Use designated parking at Tidal River and signed trailheads. Popular areas fill early during holidays and good-weather weekends.
Tidal River offers accessible accommodation plus free hire of a motorised TrailRider and beach wheelchairs by advance enquiry. Beach approaches still require planning and assistance.
Dogs are not permitted in Wilsons Promontory National Park, except eligible assistance dogs under Parks Victoria requirements.
Many beaches are unpatrolled and conditions can be hazardous. Swim only at a beach suitable for the day's conditions, follow local signs and check Parks Victoria's live advice before travelling.
Conditions can change. Confirm access, closures, fire restrictions and local rules before travelling.
