Why go
A good Phillip Island trip builds toward the Penguin Parade instead of treating everything else as waiting time. Walk Cape Woolamai, stop in Cowes and give the western headlands a proper look first.

A striking headland with several moderate walking options; the full circuit is about 8 kilometres and four hours.
1.5–4 hoursAn exposed western-coast boardwalk with wide ocean views; the boardwalk and car park remain open during centre upgrades.
1–2 hoursA ticketed nightly experience at the world's largest little-penguin colony. Advance booking is essential and photography or filming is prohibited after sunset.
2–3 hoursA very good day
Book the Penguin Parade first, then work backwards with realistic island driving time.
Choose the Pinnacles, Beacon or full circuit for the group's ability, tide and available daylight.
Have lunch, refuel and leave margin for slower island traffic.
Use the Nobbies boardwalk if conditions allow, noting the current visitor-centre closure.
Use your pre-booked ticket and arrive about an hour before the published penguin-arrival time.

Before you go
Official attractions provide parking, but busy-season traffic can materially extend the trip. Allow an extra 20 minutes from the bridge to the Penguin Parade and arrive about an hour before penguin arrival.
The Penguin Parade has accessible parking, wide paths, ramps and boardwalk access. A mobility buggy is temporarily unavailable during upgrades, although wheelchairs can be borrowed from the visitor centre.
Dogs are not permitted at Cape Woolamai walking trails or Phillip Island Nature Parks attractions, except eligible assistance dogs. Elsewhere, follow signed Bass Coast lead and off-leash rules.
Phillip Island's ocean beaches can be hazardous. Use patrolled beaches where available, check conditions and treat Cape Woolamai's headland walk as a coastal hike; its beach section is best at low to mid tide.
